Understand my beliefs please
I think part of the problem that is going on here is that the bulk of you are ignorant as to the word of God. I don’t have these beliefs just because I want to, I have them because they are the beliefs that I was raised in. I understand that everyone didn’t have the chance to be taught these things, and learn about God as my family did so if I am going to have this kind of attention I should use it to help teach others about the words of God that helped to shape me into the woman I am today.
Everyone I am sure knows the passage that in the beginning God created heaven and earth. But there is more then just this one that people remember.
In Genesis 1:2 there is more talk about God’s work. “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
So it’s clear that Earth was made by God’s hand, not science. From this God moved to creating all the creatures, notice there is never talk of creatures ‘evolving’ into other creatures, instead God is able to make the creatures as he will including man.
In Genesis 1:25-27 “25. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
People of science claim that the Earth is the way it is because of millions of years of time and science effecting it. But we are taught and believe that our world is this way and has the aged look because of the flood of Noah. It was the waters covering the Earth on such a grand scale that caused the aging that people of science claim as proof.
But in the Bible we are told in Genesis 6:7 “So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth–men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air–for I am grieved that I have made them.””
But the Bible teaches us that God was not done with man. For we were His creation and He then spoke to Noah in Genesis 8:21-27 after the flood.

It’s these teachings that I’ve spent my life learning, believing and becoming, that have made me the woman that I am today.

Spore is an incredible achievement of interactive entertainment that should be applauded and heralded as such.
The sheer scope, vision and scale of the game is beyond anything ever, so yeah, stop being a prick and actually learn to appreciate something worth appreciating.

Without too much knowledge about the game to start with other than Leo Laporte et al. discussing it on their webcast, I’d think I have to agree with them that Spore is not an evolutionary game per se.
An evolutionary game would be very boring, because you wouldn’t have to do anything besides wait and see what happens. As I gathered, in spore you are required to make decisions about the direction in which your creature develops. That to me sounds more like an ‘intelligent design’ kind of environment than evolution.

Here’s my problem with this website. It seems anytime anything comes up that even insinuates that what the bible says might not be true, the Christians jump up like a bunch of over zealous crusaders of god and feel like they have to strike it down.
Spore is a videogame. It supports the theory of evolution in a creative way. A theory by the way that is supported by science which is based on facts and not just a book somebody wrote to maintain order in a time of chaos.
It is an unfortunate time proven truth that religion and open-mindedness do not go hand in hand. And for the record, I would like to point out that I find it funny and ironic that you call what Will Wright did “brainwash”.

You said you were raised with such believes. But it does not mean that you cannot overlook them when you become an adult. Noone tells you that you should abandon your religion but is this too difficult to open your mind for other things?
As an example: The co-worker of my husband grew up in a religious family, they were visiting church every Sunday, preying before dinner… the usual stuff. That man had(and has) an elder brother, who, at the age of twelve announced that he refuses to go to church. His parents shrugged their shoulders and approoved. The guy, being the age of eight, immediatly jumped in and said he does not want to do it too. On what he got answer: “Wait till you are the age of your brother and then we will hear you out.” My point being, a teenager overlooked his faith, even though he was being raised in religion and opened his mind. Why can’t you?

You read it in a book, created ages ago, in a time where people were ignorant and thought rain and thunder are anger/gift of a higher being. Book can carry any information, where is a proof? Lets say your god does exist (there is a possibilty, no proof, but its possible) and he hates evolution…. Why hasn’t he banned it then!? How can you talk about banning a game that just replicates something that happens in every day life (evolution). You cannot deny the existance of evolution anymore because it is observed every day. Evolution is the change of gene frequencies between generations in a population. If evolution doesn’t exist, then how do you explain dog breeding, or crop selection, or more natural every day examples such as drug resistent bacteria?
And really anti-spore, how are you going to try to say something is fact and true just because a thousand year old book says it is. Hell, if thats the case, shouldn’t everyone be spouting greek mythology as fact, or perhaps we should all be preparing for the yearly virgin sacrifices that need to be completed before autumn harvest!!!!

well you name it god, the science name it big bang. the result is the same. our world.

i would see it this way. the spirit of god or god himself ( the difference does not matter) are some kind of power we don’t or at least didn’t understand in the times the bible was written. i actually think, that the science today even don’t understand the power behind the big bang.

Spore is a game, a creation for our entertainment that embraces the evolution theory.
People who belivie in the evolution theory did not complain when Black And White was created and we were playing as God himself. Gamers around the world loves this game and it is no suprise what so ever that some christian fanatic have to complain. The evolution theory is the most logical explination to the creation of life here on earth.
Did you know that christianity is built on a long line of other religions?
That things like “The last supper”, “The ressurection” and “Easter” had been included in alot of other religions before it was written in the Bible?

BTW - If you want to spread knowledge hit a library. I’d recommend some reading in the areas of geology, human psychology, the study of ancient religions, the creation of the christian church, and hold on now… studies in the area of textual criticism of the bible.

I just want to say that your arrogance is amusing. I love how you create this negative framing of everyone that disagrees with your views.
Why can’t everyone just keep an open mind about this stuff or at least do what I do and consider both sides of the argument and have tolerance for people that view things differently to you. I’m sorry but the whole concept of science is that things are tested and proven. They don’t necessarily disprove god or his works or anything just because they don’t mesh perfectly with the literal translation of the bible.
There is no conspiracy among scientists to undermine the church or your beliefs, I can tell you now most of them couldn’t care less and don’t even think of religious beliefs when they carry about their work (ie. it’s unbiased and pure observation and reasoning)
Even then, I’m sure you have it in you to just accept Spore as a game/simulation of the theory of evolution without it being some sort of grand plot against God or negligence by christians, perhaps they just keep a more open mind to these things than you do.

I grew up Catholic. Never really stayed a good Catholic. And oddly enough nothing has changed except for having my Sunday’s free. I still believe in God. I believe that he is good and has blessed mankind with free choice. I also believe that everyone has a right to choose a faith and live by it’s standards so long as those standards do not harm, hinder or in any way judge others.

As a Christian, and believer in 6 day creation, I have no problems with Spore. Sure, it struck me as an off comment when I heard the commercial about creavolutionism. I’m not that easily offended however, and I don’t see Wil Wright as someone who is trying to subvert our beliefs and deceive our children. It is up to parents to teach their kids what they believe, and what is true and not. It is also up to the parents to teach their kids how to deal with things that irritate them, and creating a website that blows things so greatly out of proportion, IMO, is not it.

Belief in God is not incompatible with acceptance of science, such as evolution. That’s the problem I have with how you were raised. Chapter 1 of Genesis wasn’t meant to be a scientific paper. - By using the words “according to their kinds”, that indicates that they already had existed or had been conceived to have existed and had preset behavioural patterns that god could not influence

- If he saw that it was good then why did he have to destroy everything with the great flood?

- So I was right about god being a horrible, cruel person. After all, look at what humanity has done to itself and the world we live in. Surely this isn’t the work of a god, more of a devil… Is god really Satan?

- So he really must’ve been wrong when he said in Genesis 1:25 “And God saw that it was good” I thought god was never wrong..? Also, if as the bible states “God created man in his own image”, he must hate himself seeing that he essencially destoyed himself, as we were an image of god?

- But if we were made in god’s image, surely it is god himself who’s heart is evil and not our own?

But, “God” contradicts himself through the Bible - the word of “God”; Genesis…
God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn’t make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19). 1:3-5
Plants are made on the third day before there was a sun to drive their photosynthetic processes (1:14-19). 1:11
“He made the stars also.” God spends a day making light (before making the stars) and separating light from darkness; then, at the end of a hard day’s work, and almost as an afterthought, he makes the trillions of stars. 1:16 “And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.” 1:17
The Bible talks about a world-wide flood that covered earth in 5.5 miles of water and killed everything, yet we know it never happened. That is clear from the archaeological record.
The belief in “god” seems to be ubiquitous through the ages.
We know, for example, that the ancient Egyptians believed in their gods so fervently that they built massive structures like the Great Pyramid — still today one of the largest and most enduring human constructions ever created. Despite that fervor, however, we know with complete certainty today that the Egyptian gods were imaginary. We don’t build pyramids anymore and we do not mummify our leaders.
More recently we know that tens of millions of Romans worshiped Jupiter and his friends, and to them they built magnificent temples. The ruins of these temples are popular tourist attractions even today. Yet we know with complete certainty that these gods were imaginary because no one worships Zeus any more.
Much more recently, we know that the Aztec civilization believed in their gods so intensely that they constructed huge temples and pyramids. In addition, Aztecs were so zealous that they were sacrificing hundreds of human beings to their gods as recently as the 16th century. Despite the intensity, however, we know today that these gods were completely imaginary. The Aztecs were insane to be murdering people for their gods. Killing a person has no effect on rainfall or anything else. We all know that. If the Aztec gods were real, we would still be offering sacrifices to them.
Today’s “God” is just as imaginary as were these historical gods. The fact that millions of people worship a god is meaningless.
The “God” and the “Jesus” that Christians worship today are actually amalgams formed out of ancient pagan gods. The idea of a “virgin birth”, “burial in a rock tomb”, “resurrection after 3 days” and “eating of body and drinking of blood” had nothing to do with Jesus. All of the rituals in Christianity are completely man-made. Christianity is a snow ball that rolled over a dozen pagan religions. As the snowball grew, it freely attached pagan rituals in order to be more palatable to converts.
The Bible is FULL of contradictions and irregularities. Is man perfect? No. Yet he is created in god’s image…. so either god is not perfect; or we were not created in his image.
