Another Gem I found floating on the internet.
Here we witness Will drag on about evolution and his game for a bit, bragging about using millions of people as unpaid slaves to create content for his game.
Then he trots out the founder of SETI, Mr. Frank Drake.
I think it is entirely possible that God created civilizations on other planets. But because Will Wright has brainwashed Frank Drake into thinking that life in the universe gave rise to “super humans” on other planets that are better than us.
God would never create something better than himself, it is not possible as God is perfect in every way. And once again, I reiterate that man was created in His image.

I can admit you still believe in creationism, while ignoring scientific proofs that the Darwin Evolution theory is not a theory anymore, after all, your right to believe in God is guaranteed by the US constitution.
What I don’t understand is how you can try to ban diverging opinions, clearly used in this game. After all, you do admit that people have the right not to believe in God, or to believe in other Gods (which is also guaranteed by the constitution)….so why shouldn’t they be allowed to express themselves?
Whether this game should be shown to your children is a totally different question: it is your strict right, as parents, to forbid your kids to use this game. I, as well as most reasonable people, wouldn’t even think about taking this right away from you.
I am strongly against creationism ideas. In fact, as a European knowing the US very well, and as many Europeans, I think such ideas of intolerance and denial of the science facts is leading the US on the same path as other religious extremists (which I won’t name). But what I think does not matter, I do respect your right to believe. Why don’t you respect the right of other people not to believe?
No God, shall it exist, would promote hate or ignorance; why don’t you let other people leave in their own beliefs, as long as they let you protect your own and your children’s?

You’re attacking a game, accusing the producers to try and brain wash our children. But, aren’t you a brain washer too, trying to make everybody swallow your beliefs? I believe in God, but in my opinion, all this cientific creation (that the game shows) IS a work of God! Or you simply believe God said: AHOY! and then a human being appeared out of the blue? You must be a very ignorant person to still believe in magic nowadays, eh? The give you the chance to choose how to evolve: like a predator or a pacifist, making friends and all. I mean, it’s now making everybody kill everybody and educating the children to be violent. If you want to piss over Grand Theft Auto (even haveng an age rate, which means “you must be 18 or older to buy it), I believ you would have some good reasons. But in this case, you’re nothing but a crazy religious trying to make your point without having a real point! What’s your next move? Throw and airplane full of innocents over EA’s place? Bin Laden thinks the same way as you, did you realise that? And don’t get me started with the “oh, I felt offended by the game” cry act. You don’t have to buy it. First of all, I believe your term unpaid slaves is inaccurate. People are creating creatures for fun. They’re not forced to make them, they choose to do so and can choose not to at any time they like. Thus, not slaves.
Secondly, I doubt Will Wright influenced Drake’s opinions… Rather, he gave him the ability to show them in his game.
Thirdly, you say that God would not create something better than himself and then say mankind was created in his own image and seem to be implying that anything better than mankind is better than God. Once again, I disagree. An image is nothing more than an image. It does not truly show God’s might. Mankind was taken from God’s image, but it is not God’s image. Furthermore, I believe that the defining trait of humanity is beyond appearance and physical form and is infact more spiritual. Thus, while it’s possible to improve the body, we cannot improve the human soul. Many creatures on this world are physically superior to humanity, yet also similar, but they all lack that spark that we have.

I don’t get it. There are books about evolution in the library. There are courses about evolution, many taught to children. There are programs about evolution on TV all the time. I thought this game looked alright. Then you posted that video. That was amazing! Now I’m definitely buying it. I think you need to rethink your views. This game takes the idea of evolution as a basis for creativity.
Also. Whats with the term “Unpaid Slaves”? Was the unpaid part necessary? Really though, the focus of this game is giving players the tools they need to make it as expansive as they want. It’s not to teach you how evolution works. Even if it was there shouldn’t be a problem. I’m a firm believer, but i still believe in evolution. It is very possible that evolution is part of God’s plan.

By refusing to believe that God made anything better than us, you are limiting God’s power. We are in his image, which I take to mean that we all are connected to represent God’s creative flavour. You can interpret the word image into all sorts of meanings, but I think refining it to mean that we are exactly like Him is refining God, which is impossible, keeping in mind that He is all powerful. Also, I think instead of getting angry for someone expressing his artist vision is also limiting. Will Wright isn’t attacking anyone, this is just a viewpoint that he provides. There’s no attack, he just believes differently than you. And who says you’re right? What if your denomination is wrong? Are you Catholic? Protestant? We live in a free country, if you can’t get Satanism banned then your not gunna stand a chance with banning a game about evolution. Both the creationist and the evolutionist try to explain the improbable - that we should exist. But I think you’re failing to understand the whole scope of things if you automatically resort to God simply because of the complexity of life on Earth.
The reason is because our minds can’t really even grasp the scale of the universe or the possibilities held within. There’s something like 400 billion stars in our galaxy and 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe - which is probably only a small part of the entire actual universe. If each star has only one planet, which seems like a rather conservative estimate based on discoveries of exoplanets thus far, then that works out to something like 100 planets in the observable universe for every grain of sand on earth. Next time you’re at the beach, let the sand flow through your fingers - 100 planets for each of those grains…as far as the eye can see, all over earth. Even the most unlikely of things will happen in a universe of that size, somehow and somewhere…even the evolution of advanced lifeforms. And it just so happens that here is one of those places.

If anything, this game is sort of a “god sim” in which the goal is to be a good intelligent designer and guide your species through its development. Sure, it’s loosely based on the evolutionary process, but it’s all designed and guided by something beyond the realm of the game. It’s just that it happens to take place in a universe in which evolution exists (one not unlike our own in that way. The whole process of development of complex creatures from single cells is really quite fascinating actually, and that’s why they chose to make a game based around it (while by the nature of it being a game controlled by the player, the addition of elements of creationism were more or less unavoidable).
Hell above all, it’s not supposed to have any sort of philosophical implication or anything, it’s just supposed to be a fun, creative GAME. Again just like movies and games have been made about Greek mythology and such, it’s just because it’s an interesting premise.

I’m not going to lie though, I haven’t read this guy’s blog. I clicked on a headline that said someone was protesting SPORE and the clicked immediately on the comment section. I’m not really interested in what he has to say, or his opinions. I just wanted to tell someone that you don’t have to be stupid to be a good person, or even a christian.
Now that might seem to imply that the owner of this blog is stupid, because he’s pursuing the matter from a religious point of view, but I really don’t mean that. As I said, I don’t know anything about him, and I’m keeping my ignorance so I can try and stay unbiased.
Really, I just wanted to say, even if no one would ever read it, that you have to remember that you can’t judge something on the first impression, because those aren’t always right. This one person cannot speak for his entire faith, race, occupation, or anything really. He can only speak for himself, and it would do us all a lot of good to remember that. Christianity isn’t only a bunch of crappy stores with poor service, and it’s not just a bunch of churches where everyone goes and then thinks about how much they want to leave. There’s more to it than that. There’s more to everything than the water cooler stories.
When an issue like this comes up, people react against it because they think it’s “bullshit” or “fucking dumb”, but then where does that get us? If you violently argue with someone who thinks that he is standing against the masses, you’ll only convince him he’s right. How many of these posts barely made it past a spell checker because of the emotion behind them? It doesn’t work like that, yelling never makes people agree with you: the best you can hope for is that you’ve got the most stamina.
There’s more to life than SPORE guys, and I’ll admit it looks good, but does it really matter if there’s *one* person who doesn’t like it? This is a situation when many people need to just chill out. It’ll help us live with each other, and that’s really all we’ve got. Videogames don’t make themselves you know.

Nice of you to comment on EA’s game and to try to roast it, but at the same time also give it a publicity boost. I’m not affiliated with EA or any church, nor do I believe in the existance of any god.
Just wanted to thank you for pointing this game out to me. I didn’t know of its existance, but it really seems like a cool and well-made game. You say that you found more stuff about the game. In order to find something, you must have been looking for it. So it’s nice of you to actively go out and find things to bash on. Not!

I was just wondering wether you were actually opposed to this game or just feel threatened by science’s influence on your belief. Using a game, that is entertainment, as some sort of scapegoat for you disagreement with science is really an appalling thing to do.
To then go another step further and attack the belief’s of Will Wrights religion as if to somehow bolster your tiff with evolution is really intellectually dishonest. It is tantamount to someone opposing religion because of their dislike of a certain priest.
I appreciate the right for free speech, but if you want you arguments to be considered on the same level as scientific discussion make them logically sound. You should not reduce your arguments to attacks on people or brand people as ’slave masters’. To then whine that other people should be a “little nicer” when you are doing the same things (albeit not as blatantly as the commenters) under the guise of religion.
What I’d like you to also consider is playing the game before criticizing it too, it seems several days elapsed before you even watched the game. One thing ever good debater knows is know your enemy. Be informed, and make sure your judgments are made after considering the evidence, not beforehand.

First off, I have a question. What kind of authority do you have as a religious official that makes you believe that your beliefs and actions (the creation of this site and call of removing the video game Spore from stores) are right in the eyes of God? While it is the responsibility of Christians to spread the word of God to other people, it is NOT the responsibility of Christians to shove their beliefs down other peoples throats because a person doesn’t agree with the religious references made by someone else (in this case, the references to evolution and creationism found in Spore). Do you know why that is? It is because God gave free will to all people. That’s what great about both being Human and living in America. People are free to choose what religious preferences they want, and are free to express themselves. Banning the game Spore from store shelves would encroach on that American AND God-given right.
I can understand that the reason for your actions stems from your desire to shelter your children from something that you deem being unsuitable for your household. Now think about this: Would you want someone else telling you how to raise your children? Of course you wouldn’t - you have your own beliefs on how you want to raise your children. Wouldn’t the banning of this game based on it’s religious innuendo be akin to restricting the freedom of expression and the allowance of engaging in an activity?
In the post in which you congratulate yourself for getting a “nude” Spore creation, I have found several CRITICAL error’s in your logic. Yes, you posted a video of a game creation that was meant to resemble a nude women. What you did NOT do is indicate the username of the person that created the creation, you did NOT indicate where the creation could be found, and you did NOT indicate where you received this information. Any of that would be critical to directly link yourself to the removal of this creation. As could be seen in another post HERE on this site, Spore users have created millions of creatures (hence your post “Mr. Wright Strikes Again”). You ONLY provided a visual representation of one such creature that simulates nudity, it would be nigh impossible for EA and Maxis to scour it’s vast database for one such creation - unless, that is, EA and Maxis had already established their own methods of analyzing and removing creations that may be considered offensive. I can assure you that posting a YouTube video of a “nude” model is not an effective tool with which to search a database containing millions of pieces of content - so the only logical answer is one of two things. 1) Another Spore user saw the content, and through the use of the Spore website, submitted relevant data necessary to remove the creation from the database or 2) EA and Maxis have their own methods of screening for inappropriate content (which for millions of creations over the course of only about 2 weeks is no small task).
There are two posts here that discuss the problem of inappropriate content in the game. There is a HUGE problem with what you’re saying about the game. The way you’re representing the game, it’s as if you’re implying that players will without a doubt encounter these inappropriate creations, and that EA and Maxis encourage users to create these “nude” creatures. This is FAR from the truth. No nude or inappropriate game creature has come from, or is endorsed by the game’s creators. The only source of this inappropriate content is from immature end users that think that it’s funny to play through the game with a creature shaped to resemble genitalia. And as has been witnessed already, EA and Maxis have been working to remove this content from the accessible user-created content. Allow me to give an example of what is going on here. I’m sure we can all agree the Crayola makes their crayons for creative use on the part of the end users - people that want to draw and color. People are free to color and draw whatever they want: plants, animals, scenery, and - because they have a right to create what they will - genitalia (I’m certain you can see how I’m relating this to the ability of Spore players to create whatever they want). Sometimes those same people who think it’s funny to draw inappropriate pictures will also think it’s funny to put these pictures up where people can see them (related to the uploading of inappropriate content onto Spore’s internet servers). Now are we to go after Crayola for creating the tools that were used to create inappropriate images (Spore being the tools for creation)? No. We try to find who created the content and give them a slap on the wrists. Going after Crayola (EA and Maxis) wouldn’t solve anything, if the content in question was created by immature end-users.
From this site, I’m noticing a sizable amount of contempt for Will Wright. This is something that I’m having a huge problem seeing from a person claiming to be a good, Christian person. Will Wright is a person, just like everyone else. He has the same rights to believe what he wants, and he has the same rights to express his beliefs freely. He chose to express himself through creating a video game that had a strong basis in the concepts of evolution and creationism. How is it that he must be condemned for his choice to create a game that expresses his beliefs? Just because it doesn’t contain Christian values, it shouldn’t be banned from all people. And if you still think that is should be, an alternative view (doesn’t reflect my personal view but is to make a point): Because the movie Passion of the Christ contains Christian principals, I, as a muslim, believe that the movie should be removed from all store shelves because it is something that is against what I believe. (note: I am not a muslim, but am making a point regarding different religious views) It is impossible to argue with this logic. What you are asking is based solely on your religious preference and is against one of the fundamental values of living in the United States of America - the freedom to believe in and pursue whatever religious preference a person may want.
I have to address your desire to get the game removed through the means of a Court of Law. As I have already established, the desire to remove the game from store shelves stems from religious beliefs. That fact prevents an American Court of Law to enforce such a demand - due to the separation of church and state. The government cannot interfere with something based on it’s religious preference - the only exception being if the thing in question is a public nuisance and interfering with the operations of a business or establishment. And as for the claims that illicit content can be found in the game, I have also established that all content that could be considered inappropriate is created by end users, something that EA and Maxis has no control over. You have no claims with which would be sufficient to remove the game from store shelves. None.
Now I think it’s fair to tell you what kind of person I am. My mother took myself and my sister to our Lutheran Catholic church every Sunday right up until we moved when I was 10. Since then, my parents divorced and I’ve been forced to live with each parent have 50% custody - meaning I would stay with my mother one week and my father the next. Now I’m 18, sleeping on a couch at my grandfather’s in California’s Bay Area, going to college during the week and working to pay my bills on the weekend. My life is pretty chaotic, and I’ve been friends with people from every religion, every race, in all sort of economic standings. I have very little stability in my life, but the little I have I like to believe comes from the many viewpoints I’ve encountered as a result of my unstable lifestyle. It’s up to you to listen to these ramblings of a 18 year old, I just wanted to make MY beliefs known. I will repost this from time to time (with updates if applicable).

If Humans and Super Humans *looked* identical. Would this not still be “in god’s image”? If you’re willing to accept that god created other beings on other planets, isn’t it possible that due to his intelligent design, he modified the alien beings in some minor way? What if he upgrades himself constantly - thereby keeping all new races he creates in sync with his ‘design’, but is unable to modify us Earthlings any further?
