Proof EA is converting children to believe in evolution

It really makes me sad… I hope that somehow I can prevent more damage from being done.

I used to go to church, every week, and learn about God, Jesus and how to live life in a holy way. I don’t anymore. Not because I don’t believe, not becasue i’m a devil worshipper and certainly not out of some sort of pig headed, closed minded rejection for the church and those who have faith. No, I no longer attend church becasue of people like you. People who are so closed minded and aggressive that they shun everything that questions what they “know” to be true. I don’t know whether god “exists” in a literal sense, but i don’t believe he/she does. But i do believe that the spirit of God exists; everywhere. If people can feel better about the world by believing in a religion, whether it be Christianity, Muslim, Sikh, Buddism; then great! But hostile activists such as yourself who try to destroy anything that contradicts their views are not good, not holy, and if heaven does not exist, i am certain you would not be welcome. Evolution is real…and has solid physical FACT. Whether some supernatural power started the ball rolling i don’t know. Consider though, if your mind could open just a crack for a moment, that God created something he wanted to watch grow, and develop into something new, without his/her intervention. This would enable you to keep hold of your faith, and also not ignore science.
Do you support the Muslim activists behind 9/11? Would you have done if they had shared your religion and had flown a plane into EA’s buildings? You may say you would never ever do anything so barbaric and misguided. But you would still destroy this game. I suggest you do what I do; leave things you are too ignorant to understand alone. If you dont want your kids to play this game, don’t let them. But in my view they should be left to make up their own mind about life, religion and the way they wish to live. But that’s your choice. I wont make it for you; i am not that arrogant. Perhaps you should leave the rest of us to choose whether or not to play a game?

In Spore Space Stage, we encounter some Religious creatures. Even if every creature of the game has been created through evolutionnary process, these Religious creatures believe in The Word of Spode (in human interpretation, it would be the Word of God, or the Word of Allah, sounds the same for non-believers). Those who believe in The Word of Spode hate those who don’t, and are ready to launch war on them, even if you come with diplomacy. Sounds like human religion to me !

Hello, just mentioning that this a game. Parents should look through the game to see it’s content. If they agree with it then young children will be affronted with whatever there parents wish. If the individual is old enough then they will see the game as a harmless RPG based on a (and read this) THEORY. You see, mankind has been given the unique opportunity to make a choice. This freedom of choice allows them to believe whatever they want to believe. People like you need to stop telling people what to believe, if you believe that this game is endorsing creationism then look at our current ethos, we are a civilization built upon ideals that stem to basic morals and ethics. We are free to believe whatever we want to believe. I myself was born into a cult, later on in life I realized I’m entitled to believe what I want to believe. In the end it’s about whether we are happy or not. So get your head out of your ass, stop preaching non-sense and realize that later on in life people will make decisions in which they will find out their mistakes BY THEMSELVES. It’s less intelligent design than evolution, which is one of the main ideas of the game, and less intelligent design than ‘directed evolution’.
However, evolution, intelligent design, and the whole gamut of other stuff you’re bringing in is only present in the first two stages, cell and creature. Beyond that, it becomes the traditional God game, controlling and destroying things on a whim.
Try playing it yourself, it’s pretty cool.

I played Spore on the DS yesterday for the first time and have to say that it is a funny game, which has a bit of evolution and a bit of creation in it, evolution, because it does evolve, creation bevause the player can pick parts to start off with and intervene in the natural evolution.

My thoughts on the entire matter can be summed up thusly;

Evolution is only incompatible with religion if you take the Bible as literal truth, rather than parable. I am not aware of any significant religious thinkers or branches or religious thought which advocate literal interpretation, for several reasons.
First, and most importantly, because it’s nonsensical. We have scientific evidence which contradicts the Bible. Faith does not trump facts, however much we may want it to. If the Bible said the sky was green, anyone who believed it would be mocked - well the fact is that evolution is as well supported as our blue sky.
Second, the Bible is not God’s word. It is God’s word given to Man, written by Man, interpreted by Man, edited by Man, translated by Man, over and over again for millennia. The Bible is highly selective, contradictory, and is certainly not any divine work! To think it is divine is to blaspheme against God by claiming Man knows His divine mind and will. And if we knew that, we wouldn’t have any need for the Bible, now would we?
As for me personally, I believe that if God exists and has the power we credit to Him, He’s probably capable of plans a good deal more intricate and long-term than we can comprehend. I have no difficulty believing that evolution may be the process through which God creates.
If EA are “converting children to believe in evolution” and you’re “converting children not to believe in evolution” why are EA the bad guys? because you’re right?

Actually, maybe if you were given such a educational tool when you were young you might have grown up to realize there is no right and wrong, you think you’re right, good for you. You don’t want your children learning about evolution? don’t buy Spore.

I think a simple solution to all of this is to respect the right of people to believe in whatever they want to believe in and to quit overanalyzing a game.
I’m taking an intro to biology course and my professor even said “Yes the subject of evolution is controversial but science can neither prove of disprove that evolution is correct or not correct.”
So in short if you and parents simply have a problem with the game I say all the power to you in making sure your kid dosen’t play it. On the flip side respect the game’s right to exist for those who wish to play it.

You start off by calling Spore propaganda. I’ve been to church enough to know that christians use propaganda in a much grander scale than even Germany. Bringing children to church so that they get told “the truth” is laughable and is the same as telling a child santa exist without ever telling them it’s fantasy.
And what is wrong about teaching children different views? That’s right, none! The reason you are against teaching your kids about evolution is because you want to stuff their heads with religious propaganda, making them oblivious to any other views. Isn’t it better to give your children a choice? Let them decide for themselves what they believe in? What you are doing is abusing the minds of your children.

Really, that’s what creationism is. An insult to God. Believing in God does not conflict with accepting evolution (I’m using “accepting” here instead of believing, as evolution is as much a theory as gravity is. So, unless your name is Peter Pan, don’t bother bringing up the “but it’s just a theory” card). As a computer programmer I have to say, evolution is a beautiful system, which would be great to be able to imitate (imagine self-correcting bugs), but we aren’t even close. We still have to design each new program, each new CPU ourselves, just like intelligent design, instead of making one simple version, and have it evolve into a great system. So, what creationists are saying is that their “God” is no smarter than a mere computer scientist. That their “God” couldn’t have created evolution.
Now that’s what I call an epic insult to Gods abilities.

funny…this game doesn’t follow the theory at all. It does open up questioning, though. Is this the problem you have with the game? Evolution is a fact. The theory is our best explaination as to how it works based on the vast collection of evidence. Take off the blindfold.
1) If you are part of the group that believes the fossil record is there to test one’s faith, then I don’t see how this should be any different - “accept the challenge and believe in spite of it” should be the mantra here, rather than having it pulled from stores or the public eye where no-one must confront it.
2) If you are part of the group that supports intelligent design, then things are different. Do you not believe it to be an example of pride to think that the game puts you in a position of equal power to God? The game should, in my opinion, be a blessing to you - a demonstration of how, were a mortal in charge of ID, how it would, indeed be a guessing game rather than a superior, intricately designed plan.
In the end, what the problem really is here, (as it usually is with videogames and other similar things) is a problem of parenting. If you want to raise your children Christian, to believe in either ID or creationism, what kind of parent are you if your teachings are trumped by that of a simple game? The only parents with anything to fear from something this trivial are the ones who ignore their children and plop them in front of the TV or computer for hours on end. Don’t blame EA, don’t blame Spore, and don’t blame any form of media - children are not stupid, and they usually have utmost respect for their parents, whether they demonstrate it or not. If you talk to them, put some context around what they’re learning, then you will have little trouble teaching them that Spore demonstrates what some of the world believes. Whether you want them to believe in evolution or not, it is putting them at a handicap to willfully make them ignorant of some of the differing opinions out there - and only increases the chances that when they encounter these opinions in the real world (which they will) it will be in a setting that you have no chance to put context around, putting them more at risk of accepting what you believe to be “harmful” beliefs.
Now, I wish to make it known that blindly embracing the result of politicized doctrines that run contrary to logic and evidence is not what I believe God would want from us. I believe that he would want us to question and to wonder, so that we might better understand His creation, and indeed to question his very existence. Is it not the ultimate test of faith to be presented with a completely explained world with no miracles… and still believe? We try so hard to make our own miracles, as we live in a time without Jesus to convert us through incontrovertible, supernatural proof, that many have surrendered their (God-given) free will to the whims of the Vatican, or wherever your denomination is centered.

Second, evolution DID happen, not saying a god wasnt or was at the origin at it, just that it is a theory that has been pretty much proven through observation and by looking at evolving viruses (think of drug resistant viruses and bacteria). Have you ever heard of trans species? We’ve found thousands of these creatures buried in old sediment in the earth that shows that the creatures we have today are not the same that they were a long time ago. (Google images of it)..You wouldnt find the hippo bones of the same hippo we have today in sediment from early periods because they didnt exist. What we do find is a hippo similar to the ones today but not as “evolved”… this is just plain observation, no dogma or superstition. Spore just shows how creatures have evolved given their environment throughout time. Even humans have shown the same capacity to adapt to their environment (think of blacks with darker pigment to block out sun b/c they lived in warmer climates or whites with less pigament to allow more light to come in, so that the little sun they did get in colder regions can be used for vitamin D synths.) These adaptions were evolved to fit in with the environment the human species has found itself in.

You either examine the vast swathes of evidence for it and understand the mechanism by which all current life on earth has come to be here, or you don’t and live in ignorance while pushing a creationist agenda based on ignorance and lies. I won’t judge your attitude towards God cause I’m ateist and don’t understand how someone cannot see that the Church was made just to make people into manipulatable sheeps (sheeps - pastors even uses this word). It was needed by the political and authority reasons and it was based on fear. And at first it was very good and usefull invention. It was some kind of moral codex and it worked, also because of the fear factor. I don’t need to justify people’s right to believe what they want, and I’m not going to force my believes onto you. You can’t control other people, and you can’t tell people they can’t practice their own freedom. I can understand, with you being a whole hearted Christian, you heavily believe about creationism vs spore. The point about this whole thing, is you are believing people are taking the views of spore as an actual event taken place on earth with biblical proportions. The point of this game is to use fantasy with imagination, I’ve played the game for many hours and it’s just about having fun with designs and introducing a fun level of game play to the audience that offers a lot of replay value that most other games don’t.
This youtuber obviously has her own point of view, however what gives you the right to immediately judge this girl on her beliefs? These people had the idea of evolution before they even played this game. Using the game spore, she decided to create a video to give an understanding about the concept of evolution, since graphics and imagery is easier to get across sometimes then long lectures.
Even IF this game was teaching evolution, when obviously it hasn’t, it’s up to parents to help their children to distinguish the differences between videogames & movies from religious beliefs and facts.
The problem here is that you wish to show zero tolerance towards a video game that really only serves to entertain and not preach. But you expect total tolerance towards your religion, and most Christians do enforce the name of Jesus and God onto people who are in a different religion or to people who you don’t understand. It’s a lot of hypocrisy, and ignorance.
And the major ignorance is coming from you how you see this game. There are more problems out there that require a more meaningful approach then for someone to dedicate webspace to try to make a public view & change towards a video game.
For example: In Africa, there’s US corporations polluting into the natural environments where tribes live in and require these natural environments to survive on. There’s so many hard working citizens who struggle to make a living, yet they manage to pull through barely for their family and cannot afford the health care they need. There are people literally starving, no matter how hard they try…and you have the audacity to sit here and protest about a video game.

I’ll try not to be hostile like some of the other, reprimandable at least, posters that support evolution. In defense of the late Lord Darwin and this frankly amazing game I propose a simple yet solid checklist to bend your opinion about evolution.
1. when pestisides are dropped on pests, some survive due to seemingly random natural resistances to the poison, most of the offspring will inherit those resistances in the same way a child inherist traits like eye and hair color from his parents. Do you Agree?
2.If you were female (if you persieve such a minor change of perspective to betray your mental sanctity you need only notice that women have the minds of women and sustain no damage) would you want to be with a vision of human perfection or the result of overacumulation of incompatible genetic variations(a retard). if you would logicly choose the avatar of human perfection. offspring would be the cross of you and human perfection, closer to perfection than would have likely woud have been achieved by a retard cross. through generations this effect acumulates. With the obcenety you have exposed on Spore that you believe to warrant an M rating you must take notice of the very broken ESRB(not for this reason of course) states that it does not rate the online experience for the clear reason that there are sickos and tricksters with computers. a games creators should not have their reputation marred by the creators that use thier game, if you would look on the spore website for somthing other than genetalia you would find one of the vastest and most accesible creative outlets of all time.

Condemning something without actually looking at it is one of the dumbest things you can do. Spore does not support evolution in fact if you leave your creature alone it will stay the same through the entire game. The only changes that can occur are directly controlled by the player. Wait what does that sound like… you got it intelligent design.
So spore is very much like the other sim games in that u simply make changes and see what happens. You really need to look at something before you attack it.
